Do You Have A Disaster Recovery Plan For Your Business?

HTML Ready Article. Click on the "Copy" button to copy into your clipboard.

By: Colon Bolden

A disaster recovery plan is not meant only for natural disasters to the company, because a computer virus or hackers attack can cause much bigger damage to a business as compared to a thunder storm or tornado. Therefore, if your business is in anyway related, or relying upon information technology, communication or electronic databases, than you must come up with a disaster recovery plan for serious protection.

Part of your business whether its large or small, a continuity planning will be the safeguarding of your information assets. Your business would probably be completely unable to function without its vital information assets. This is where specialist information security consultants can help you. But it's very important that the plan is fully "owned" by your business, and regularly tested and updated for recent security. Without the full engagement of all employees, even the best disaster recovery or business continuity plan will be no more than an expensive shelf lining.

The main objective is to extend and survive the business in the event of disaster that might impact the business in significant ways including local incidents like building fires, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, or national incidents like pandemic illnesses. Business Continuity Plan serves organization to make a valuable recommendation and policies. These policies can recover and restore partially or completely interrupted critical business units within a stipulated time after a disaster or extended disruption.

You will want to do other things to make sure that you are prepared for a disaster as well. Make sure that all of your employees have a way of contacting you or their manager in case of an emergency disaster so they know where to go if the building is anyway damaged. Have an updated call list so you can make sure that all of your employees are okay. Your staff and employee files with the confidential information are important as well. You must make sure that you have backups of their information, and you need to keep those files off the property. You can find companies that will store the digital files for you.

As of present, all that needs to be done in order to obtain an emergency action plan is to avail of pre-defined action plans that are being sold by various vendors. These documents are easily available and take into account all pertinent facts relating to a good emergency action plan and can also be tailored to suit specific needs of customers. For a low cost, the customer realizes economy of purchase, ease of use and less time utilized in obtaining an emergency action plan off the shelf.

The only way to prevent an easy disaster to your company is to school your employees with training on a continuous basis. The most valued asset in any organization is their precious employees. And their safety and welfare must always come first, but you must also stay focus on the other assets that can jeopardize the organization that could leave those employees without a company to employ them.

Car Insurance for International Drivers: Obtaining the Best Rates ...

Obtaining car insurance for international drivers requires that you follow specific rules. Companies have policies on how they will insure you and for how long. You can also expect to pay higher rates for car insurance for international drivers. In some cases you could pay hundreds of dollars for car insurance. Finding an insurance company that meets all of your financial needs and qualifications may take some shopping around, but there are insurance companies out there that offer affordable rates, even to international drivers.

Finding International Car Insurance

In your search for international car insurance the best place to start is with your current car insurance company. Many local companies offer international car insurance that will cover you in other countries. However, you can also go online and search by your zip code to find a local company that offers international auto insurance. If you don?t like the local offers you find, you can search online for companies in the country you will travel to.

Rules and Restrictions for International Drivers

When it comes to car insurance for international drivers there are often many restrictions. For example, American insurance companies will grant insurance coverage for 30 to 65 days for drivers with an international license. However, after this time period has expired, international drivers must obtain a license from the United States. Car Insurance companies also require that drivers have an international license before qualifying for auto insurance. Licenses from other countries will not suffice.

International Car Insurance Rates

When applying for car insurance for international drivers there are guidelines to determine costs. These guidelines are very similar to the ones found for traditional insurance. The car insurance company will consider past driving records, credit scores, and accident history when deciding on the cost of your premium. If you have anything on your driving record or you have bad credit you will pay more for car insurance. You can check our website right now and get cheaper car insurance quotes.

Getting a Good Deal on Car Insurance

Of course the only way to get a good deal on car insurance is to shop around. Use online insurance comparison sites to compare cheaper car insurance rates and coverage options. Make sure you compare like policies in your search for the best deal. For example, make sure that when you are comparing two policies that the coverage levels are all the same and that each policy has the same deductible. Some sites will offer comparable prices but different coverage levels.

If you want to lower the amount your coverage costs you have several options. You can choose to raise your deductible, or the amount you pay in case of an accident, to lower your price. Another option would be to lower your medical or comprehensive coverage. In this case you would have less coverage. However, if you have health insurance you may not even need medical coverage with your insurance.

International Car Insurance Isn?t as Complicated as You Think

While car insurance for international drivers may seem complicated at first it actually isn?t. It is very much like obtaining the car insurance you need locally. However, this car insurance covers you when you travel to another country. Shop around for the best rates and you could find coverage for affordable rates for your next trip. Check our website for Cheaper Car Insurance Quotes in just minutes.

Husband of missing mom not getting kids back

>>> this morning in the search for missing utah mother susan powell . they executed a search warrant at her husband's home on thursday removing several computers and other items. nbc's miguel almaguer has the latest on this story.

>> good morning. for months investigators seemed to be baffled by this case, but this week during the middle of a nasty family feud, they claim to be making progress. then they came here to washington state and to the home of susan powell 's husband. the police raid lasted hours. investigators hauled away computers, boxes, and bags. detectives also combed through josh powell 's van. a search warrant saefrds erved at the home he now shares with his father, two years after his wife disappeared.

>> we've got probable cause to believe that there are some items of evidentiary value.

>> reporter: they called the evidence, quote, very, very important, yet shared no details of what they found in the home of josh powell .

>> it's the genuine belief, obviously, of a good many people, that you killed her.

>> i would never hurt my wife. i've never -- never hurt her.

>> reporter: late thursday after the raid, josh told "dateline"'s keith morrison officers seemed focused on one thing.

>> war want to take skew san's journals.

>> reporter: the journals which josh promised to release are a series of lengthy handwritten diaries, that shows his wife wrote of suicide and a pro miscuss lifestyle.

>> what would a childhood journal have to do with a missing person unless there was something in there that they thought might have some significant bearing on what she she -- what her personality, what her capabilities are.

>> reporter: thursday's raid came just hours after josh powell 's father, steve powell , leveled allegations against his missing daughter-in-law.

>> she was open to me sexually, mentally, whatever.

>> reporter: steve powell claims josh's wife often tried to seduce him and admits he openly made sexual advances toward susan .

>> i wasn't going to turn down an opportunity with this beautiful woman, even though she was my son's wife. i'm sorry. she is just a wonderful person, and i enjoyed it.

>> reporter: jennifer graves is steve powell 's estranged daughter and close friend of susan 's. she said susan complained to her about her father-in-law's inappropriate advances.

>> she's never told me about any inappropriate relationship. my dad never told me about inappropriate relationship.

>> reporter: disgusted and outraged by the salacious claims, susan 's father, chuck cox, claims the racy allegations against susan are despicable and out right lies. he says the police seizure at his son-in-law's home is progress.

>> it makes me much more comfort comfortable if the journals are in their hands than in steve and josh's hands.

>> reporter: on a frigid december day in 2009 , josh told investigators he took their boys camping at 12:30 a.m . in a snowstorm and came home to find susan missing. he was soon named a person of interest but was never charged with a crime. this past weekend, police searched the nevada desert for new clues at josh's home thursday, investigators describe josh as calm and cooperative but have long said he's refused to work with detectives, a claim josh refused.

>> where do you think they should be searching.

>> i think they should be searching for a woman who is struggle i struggling, someone who wants to come back, having a difficult time understanding how to come ba back.

>> reporter: during thursday's search no one was taken into custody, no one was arrested. police say josh powell and his father are cooperating fully with investigators. and though they say they are making progress, they will not talk about what that progress is. ann ?

>> miguel almaguer, thank you so much. clint van zandt is a former fbi profiler. good morning.

>> good morning.

>> first of all, interesting that the police have made this move so soon after josh and his father, steve , granted a number of television interviews. do you see this as a coincidence?

>> no, yonli don't think so, ann . when you have josh's father coming forward and suggesting there was some type of sexual relationship between him and the missing woman, but his daughter says not only is that not so, but he was the one that was hitting on her, she was rejecting this, i think the police not only want the diaries to see what was going on in susan 's life, but they want to see if they can substantiate any of these claims of inappropriate behavior, perhaps on josh's father's part, as they look for potential suspects in this, they may have to consider him based upon his own statements.

>> let me understand that a little bit better. if there is inappropriate behavior, as you talk about, how does that make -- what's the link between that and possibly moving this investigation forward?

>> well, they're trying to find out what happened to susan , obviously, and even though josh has always been this person of just interest, now we have this conflict coming up where josh's father says, oh, yeah, susan and i had this relationship, too. so now i think law enforcement has to question, could he -- could josh's father, as well as josh -- have some type of motive, some type of reason to perhaps participate in the disappearance of susan . they do have josh's sister or steve 's daughter suggesting that there are lies being told. law enforcement has to find the truth.

>> all right. so just basically you're looking at motives here. looking at motives, then they seize these computers. what are they looking for two years after she disappeared?

>> well, anything that would suggest what was going on at that time, ann . we're going back 20 months ago. what was going on. who was susan having problems with 20 months ago. were there arguments with josh? there are allegations that she had forced josh to move to utah simply to get away from steven, josh's father, because of these inappropriate advances that are allegedly -- were made by him. so what was going on at that time, this critical time period just before she disappeared. perhaps these journals will shed some type of light on that.

>> to be continued. clint van zandt , thank you. always great to get your perspective.

UWA Sports at AUG: Day 1 | UWA Sports Daily Replay

The UWA AUG 2011 TeamUWA Sports uprooted themselves and 420 students from water-logged Perth and transplanted them into the sun-blessed soil of the Gold Coast this week for the Australian Uni Games. One of the biggest sporting events in the country, this year over 6200 students are participating in 50+ sports. From athletics to waterpolo (don?t think theres a sport beginning with z?), the gold coast has been completely overrun with enthusiastic young ?uns, keen to get their game faces on.

Tigers for the AUG Opening Ceremony!Check in day on Sunday 24 September saw two hotel lobbies overflowing with bags, quickly followed by UWA Students in desperate need of a shower. There was no time to rest though, as they were hurried out for a quick whole team photo and then shuttled off to Dreamworld for the AUG Opening Ceremony.

Day 1 started far more subdued, as students who had been a little over eager the night before stumbled out of bed and slowly started making their way to their various sporting grounds. Their spirits, and their coordination, improved throughout the day, as team after team snatched up victories.

squash mens - uwa v jcu

Particularly good plays were made by the Tennis women and mens teams, who managed to coast through their matches against RMIT 3-2 and 4-1 respectively.

UWA Handball crushed Murdoch 43-12, despite playing on abnormally tiny courts.

UWA Squash teams also had good days, as the Mens walked away the winners of the UWA Sports Eat Free at AUG promotion. The boys scored a platter of free rolls and gatorades for lunch!

Squash mens also won all 4 of their game against Bond, and 3 of 4 against JCU.

Fencing at AUGSadly not everyone got lucky for Day 1. The fencing men got switched out of their specialties and despite their best efforts, didn?t manage to maintain their previous winning streaks. The netball womens and mixed teams also found themselves up against tough opponents in Monash, Griffith and MCQ, losing all of their games.

AFL Womens lost both their games narrowly? by 5 (to murdoch) and 212 points (to VU). ?An amazing display of womens football? the girls said.

Ultimate struggled in poor conditions, as wind and rain belted both sides. They fought hard, but were unfortunately defeated 11 ? 12 in overtime.

Stay tuned for more updates throughout the week as we cover the Games. Be sure to check out our for more photos and instant updates!

Anna Faris answers film question "What's Your Number?" (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) ? Actress Anna Faris has been tickling the funny bones of audiences in films such as "The House Bunny" and on TV shows like "Friends" since the late 1990s. She has also shown versatility in movies like "Brokeback Mountain" and programs such as "Entourage."

This week, Faris stars in adult-oriented comedy "What's Your Number?" She plays Ally Darling, a single woman on a quest to marry, but having slept with 19 men she feels like one more would make her "unmarriageable." Soon, Ally learns marriage is not about numbers and love is closer than she thought.

Faris, 34, spoke with Reuters about the film, working in adult-oriented comedies, and co-starring with her real-life husband, Chris Pratt.

Q: Ally feels like one more guy in her bed means no ring on her finger. Is 20 too high or too low?

A: "When this script was at another studio, they thought 20 was too high. They wanted to make it 16. To me, I don't know if 20 is high enough! Don't you feel like it should be 70 or something? (laughs)"

Q: Hmmm, what are you saying? Or, more importantly, what are you implying about yourself?

A: "(Laughs) I didn't get out into the world early enough. Plus I had (orthodontic) head gear. If you want your child to stay a virgin, put them in headgear. That's guaranteed to keep your number down! (Laughs)"

Q: Your real-life husband, Chris Pratt, who is on TV's "Parks and Recreation" is also in the film as one of your past lovers. How was it working with him?

A: "We worked on 'Take Me Home Tonight' a few years back and then we worked again on this. He plays Disgusting Donald, who is sort of the catalyst to my character's journey. It was a blast working with him. He makes me laugh all the time. But it's also scary. I felt a little more vulnerable doing our scenes together because I'm always concerned about what he thinks. When it's somebody who's really close to you, you care about their opinion a little bit more."

Q: Out of all your character's past boyfriends, Ally's storyline with Disgusting Donald was the most chaste.

A: "Yeah. He's the one engaged to a really hot girl! (laughs) I'm like, 'Wait, you guys are going to kiss, again?'"

Q: Ah, but Ally has plenty of bedroom scenes with numerous men. How does your husband feel about you shooting those?

A: "He's really supportive and so proud. As actors, we don't show up on the days when the other is supposed to be intimate with another person. I wouldn't want my husband sitting behind the cameras while I'm in bed with Zach Quinto or Joel McHale. Chris is so great about that."

Q: You executive produced this movie. What did that entail, other than being able to cast your husband?

A: "It means I also get to pick out what kind of donuts the crew is going to eat. (Laughs) It was a really collaborative process. I was always asked my opinion. They asked me about my choice of directors, actors, wardrobe -- everything. I have a lot of trust in people who are more experienced than I am."

Q: "What's Your Number" is rated R in the United States. After successes with other R-rated, adult-oriented, female comedies this past summer like "Bridesmaids" with Kristen Wiig and "Bad Teacher" with Cameron Diaz, are you feeling pressure to keep that streak going?

A: "It's always terrifying. Kristin Wiig and I are friends, and I'm so proud of her. I'm so excited that there's now this gang of female comediennes. Conventional wisdom in Hollywood was that women (moviegoers) wanted to see something specific out of women. What this summer has done is flip that on its head. You can't define a gender's sense of humor."

Q: When you were shooting "What's Your Number?" did you know there would be this wave or R-rated, woman comedies?

A: "When we shot this last summer, the R-rated female comedy was still dangerous territory. In the past when I've pitched comedies, the first question from the studio was always, 'What's it rated? It's got to be PG-13.' Now the conversation is completely changing."

Q: Ironically, the movie that put you on the map over 10 years ago was the R-rated "Scary Movie." Are you comfortable in this niche or do you long to break out of it?

A: "Quick -- somebody put me in a biopic, please! (laughs) It was really hard for me to break out of the 'Scary Movie' genre, and I used to feel like I needed to do something dramatic or some weird, dark independent film to be taken seriously. But I really love comedy and weirdly enough, I love how my journey has ended up. I get to laugh all day long."

Clarence B. Jones: "I Tremble for My Country"

"I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever." (Thomas Jefferson).

Watching and listening to the candidates and audiences of the two Republican Party presidential candidates debates reminded me of some of the earlier Tea Party rallies also shown on television. I remembered signs carried by some Tea Party members or supporters with poster board pictures of President Obama with a Hitler moustache or a caricature of his mouth with that of "The Joker" from Batman films. Several persons attending these same rallies also carried and prominently displayed their rifles or pistols strapped to their bodies.

Then, of course, there were the famous Sarah Palin congressional district maps depicting crosshairs of a rifle's sight in a map of the United States imposed on designated congressional districts of House members opposed by the Tea Party. Subsequently, the nation was traumatized by the attempted assassination of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, along with the killing six and wounding of 12 other persons.

At one of the Republican presidential debates, Governor Rick Perry of Texas was asked to comment on the large number of persons executed in his state. Before the Governor could respond, there was loud applause from a number of people in the live TV audience. On the issue of healthcare, presidential candidate and Texas congressman Ron Paul was asked his reaction to a hypothetical case of an uninsured person who seriously was ill, whether or not such person should be provided with some medical attention even if they could not pay for it and had no other insurance. Again, a significant segment of the live audience shouted, in effect, "let him die!"

These incidents are occurring against an economic backdrop of continued high unemployment, housing foreclosures, sharply contrasting opinions about "illegal immigration" and the widening disparity in wealth inequality in the United States. "Americans have been watching protests against oppressive regimes that concentrate massive wealth in the hands of an elite few. Yet in our own democracy, 1 percent of the people take nearly a quarter of the nation's income -- an inequality even the wealthy will come to regret. "(Nobel Prize Economist, Joseph E. Stiglitz, May 2011 Issue of Vanity Fair)

"The upper 1 percent of Americans is now taking in nearly a quarter of the nation's income every year. In terms of wealth rather than income, the top 1 percent control 40 percent. Twenty-five years ago, the corresponding figures were 12 percent and 33 percent."

  1. "While the top 1 percent have seen their incomes rise 18 percent over the past decade, those in the middle have actually seen their incomes fall. For men with only high-school degrees, the decline has been precipitous -- 12 percent in the last quarter-century alone. All the growth in recent decades -- and more -- has gone to those at the top."(Stiglitz, May 2011 Vanity Fair)
  2. The overall poverty rate in 2010 was 15.1 percent -- a statistically significant increase from 14.3 percent in 2009. This represents 46.2 million people living in poverty in 2010. This is the third consecutive statistically significant increase in the poverty rate. Marian Wright Edelman astutely reminded us in an op-ed blog earlier this week that "this is more than the entire combined populations of Iraq and Niger." And, that "a 2010 front page New York Times story reported that one in 50 -- or six million -- people in America had no income and depended on food stamps to stave off the wolves of hunger."
  3. There were 16.4 million children living in poverty in 2010, up from 15.5 million in 2009. The child poverty rate was 22.0 percent, which is a statistically significant increase from the 2009 rate of 20.7 percent. For African-American children, the poverty rate is 38.2 percent for 2010
  4. One of the most devastating consequences of widespread housing foreclosure has been the lost of the principal asset compromising African-American wealth. This has resulted in an historic disparity between white and African-American household wealth: "The median wealth of white households is 20 times that of black households and 18 times that of Hispanic households," according to a Pew Research Center analysis of newly available government data from 2009. "These lopsided wealth ratios are the largest since the government began publishing such data a quarter century ago and roughly twice the size of the ratios that had prevailed between these three groups for the two decades prior to the Great Recession that ended in 2009."
In addition to the events mentioned above. we also witnessed our national observance of the 10th Anniversary of "911," President Obama's speech to a special joint session of Congress on joblessness and the economy, watched the televised presentation of the President's speech to the 66th United Nations General Assembly, the speech of Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority, in support of Palestine's application to the UN for membership as an independent state, and the speech of Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, in opposition to the application of the PLO.

I never thought I would ever live to see and hear grandchildren of Jews who experienced Hitler's Holocaust, whose US counterparts constituted the bulwark of support for our civil rights movement, described by President Abbas of the Palestine Authority in his speech to the UN about Israel:

"The core issue is the policy of colonial military occupation of the land of the Palestinian people and all of the brutality of aggression and racial discrimination against our people that this policy entails."
All of this was occurring while the nation was also transfixed on the delay and eventual execution of Troy Davis by the state of Georgia. Over 600,000 people signed petitions calling for a stay of execution to review the original evidentiary witnesses' basis for his conviction; questioning whether it constituted "beyond a reasonable doubt."

However, what should be of grave concern to all persons of goodwill is the rising antipathy, sheer meanness, disrespect, anger, hostility not just to President Obama's policies but to him personally, and to the First Lady. There is a palpable atmosphere of anger and bitterness that is regrettably reminiscent of the sharp divisions in the country during the Vietnam War and some periods during the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

Where is all of this hatred and escalating hostility toward President Obama coming from? It seems to be transcending and going beyond traditional policy differences. There are shades of the domestic politics of the Cold War. President Obama is depicted as being "a socialist," "un-American," implying something akin to "disloyalty," describing him as seeking to impose some "ruthless form of governance" upon the American people; requiring those who "really care" about America "to take our country back."

Take our country back FROM WHERE?

Why are the religious leaders of the faith-based community in our country silent at this time? What more has to occur for them to break their silence and exercise needed moral leadership to stop this escalating and virulent hate speech by those opposed to President Obama? Dr. King often said, "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

In 2008, America wanted to believe we could be the best that we could be. Presidential candidate Barack Obama, like Martin Luther King, Jr articulated a prophetic hope and optimism about the goodness of our people; ALL people -- irrespective of race, color, or gender.

What has occurred since then to make a substantial part of Congress set aside their constitutional oath and responsibility to govern in the best interest of our country, and, instead commit themselves to defeat and deny Obama's re-election, at all cost?

President Obama is accused of proposing job recovery and deficit reduction programs that are based on "class warfare." Some on the left, part of Obama's most enthusiastic original voter base, feel "betrayed," claiming his major failing was to "bail out Wall Street" on the backs of Main Street, and the poor. Most of the vitriol, however, is not coming from the left.

There are approximately 14 months to the November 2012 presidential election. On the basis of current political discourse in the media and in public forums, political debate and discussion are likely to become more mean and ugly.

People in a position to know, in contact with the White House, have shared with me information that First Lady Michelle Obama has received more threats to her personal safety than all other previous First Ladies combined. This suggests that it is no longer unreasonable or alarmist speculation to express their serious concern about the ultimate personal safety of the President and First Lady.

Current animosity and public expression of meanness toward the President reminds me of a conversation I had with an elderly African-American woman in Oakland, CA in 2008. She explained to me why she was going to vote for Hillary Clinton and not Barack Obama in the primary. She said, she really wanted to vote for Barack Obama, but she felt like grandmother towards him; and, as such, she had a moral obligation to protect him. If she voted for him for President, and he got elected, she said "they will do to him what they did to President Kennedy and Dr. King."

I am optimistic, however, that the wisdom of Thomas Jefferson (quoted in the caption for this blog) will ultimately prevail. Are you?
