Your Car Insurance Plan | Celeste Bright

Auto Insurance Oxnard CA Every year, more automobiles and drivers hit the highways. With so many vehicles on the road, accidents will happen. The difference between a small aggravation and major pain can be car insurance. How can you decide what insurance you require and how to buy it? Coverage requirements vary by state/province but usually include the following:Liability pays for damages due to bodily injury and property damage to others for which you are responsible. Bodily injury damages include medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. Property damage includes damaged property and loss of use of property. If you are sued, it also pays your defense and court costs. Higher recommended insurances are available that cover more than the lower, state-mandated insurance. Personal injury protection: This is required in some states and is optional in others. Sometimes referred to as no-fault coverage, this pays the medical treatment for you or your passengers regardless of who was at fault. It may also pay for lost earnings, replacement of services and funeral expenses. State law usually sets minimum amounts. Medical payments: This type of coverage is available in non-no-fault states and will pay no matter who is responsible for the accident. It pays for an insured person?s reasonable and necessary medical or funeral expenses for bodily injury from an accident. Collision: Pays for damage to your car caused by a collision. Comprehensive: This applies if your car is stolen or damaged by causes other than collision, including fire, wind, hail, flood or vandalism. Uninsured motorist: Pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have liability insurance or by a person who cannot be identified (usually a hit-and-run driver). Under-insured motorist: Pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have enough liability insurance to cover the full amount of the damages. Other coverage, such as emergency road service and car rental, is also available.Your auto insurance payments vary by company and will depend on several factors, including: * What coverage you select * The make and model of the car you drive * Your driving record * Your age, gender and marital status and * Where you live Some have come to think of auto insurance as a necessary evil, but it can truly rescue your economic health Evaluate your needs, do your research and with the guidance of your insurance agent make the decision that best suits you. Sanchez, Tigers beat Yanks for 2-0 lead in ALCS

NEW YORK (AP) ? The Detroit Tigers got a big boost from Anibal Sanchez's arm. They got a helping hand from an umpire, too.

The reward: a commanding 2-0 lead in the AL championship series, and a trip home with their ace ready to start.

Sanchez shut down a Yankees lineup minus injured Derek Jeter, Detroit scored twice after an admitted missed call by an ump and won without any extra-inning drama, beating New York 3-0 Sunday.

"He was terrific," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. "This is a tough place to pitch with a tough lineup and a short porch. And a whole bunch of left-handed hitters, it is not easy. That was quite a feat."

New York starter Hiroki Kuroda pitched perfect ball into the sixth inning to keep pace with Sanchez. But Robinson Cano and the slumping Yankees hitters were no match for the 28-year-old right-hander a day after their captain broke his ankle in the 12th inning of a 6-4 loss.

"I try to think backwards," Sanchez said. "If the count calls for a fastball, I throw a different pitch. If the count calls for a different pitch, I throw a fastball. I try to mix my speeds."

To get out of a jam in the first inning, he thought backward, all right: try reaching around his back to snare a grounder for the final out.

Making his second postseason start, Sanchez threw three-hit ball deep into the game to make Leyland's job easier. Closer Jose Valverde gave up four runs in the ninth Saturday and, only hours later, Leyland said the righty wouldn't close Game 2.

Delmon Young gave Sanchez his first run of support in these playoffs with a fielder's choice in the seventh. The Tigers then scored twice in the eighth after second base umpire Jeff Nelson missed a call on a two-out tag at second base. Yankees manager Joe Girardi argued, and was ejected on his 48th birthday.

"The hand did not get in before the tag," Nelson said after seeing a replay. "The call was incorrect."

Game 3 in the best-of-seven series is Tuesday night in Detroit, with reigning AL MVP Justin Verlander starting for the Tigers against Phil Hughes. Verlander went 2-0 in the division series versus Oakland, including a four-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts in the decisive Game 5.

The Tigers led 1-0 in the eighth and had Omar Infante on first with two outs. Austin Jackson singled and when Infante took a wide turn at second, right fielder Nick Swisher threw behind him.

Cano made a swipe tag as Infante made a head-first dive back to second. Cano missed Infante's arm but brushed his body, replays clearly showed. But Nelson called Infante safe.

"I think the umpire got confused 'cause he saw my hand, something with my hand made him think I was safe," Infante said.

Was he out?

"Of course," Infante said.

Cano and Girardi pleaded the call to no avail. Boone Logan replaced Kuroda and gave up an RBI single to pinch hitter Avisail Garcia to make it 2-0.

"It's frustrating. I don't have a problem with Jeff's effort, I don't, because he hustled to get to the play. But in this day and age when we have instant replay available to us, it's got to change," Girardi said.

"These guys are under tremendous amounts of pressure. It is a tough call for him because the tag is underneath and it's hard for him to see. And it takes more time to argue and get upset than you get the call right. Too much is at stake," he said.

Girardi returned to lift Logan for Joba Chamberlain, and then he remained on the field to resume the argument. Red-faced with neck muscles bulging, Girardi could be seen shouting at Nelson, "You were right there. How could you miss it?" He was tossed by Nelson for his first postseason ejection.

Miguel Cabrera added a run-scoring single after the ejection.

Cano had no luck at the plate, either. The All-Star's slump extended to a record 26 hitless at-bats in a single postseason, breaking the mark of 24 set by Baltimore's Bobby Bonilla in 1996, STATS LLC said.

"I feel good at the plate," Cano said. "So, all I can do is stay positive and play good Tuesday."

There were many empty seats near the foul poles, and a subdued crowd spent much of the day venting its frustration, booing the punchless Yankees. The 47,082 in attendance reserved its biggest cheers early for Jeter, who broke his ankle in the last inning of the Game 1 loss.

"I don't know what's going on here, it seems like something is going on here," Tigers reliever Octavio Dotel said. "I mean, I don't want to wake them, I don't want them to get loud. I don't know what's going on but I like it."

The "Bleacher Creatures" included the captain in their roll call and fans let out a modest cheer pregame when Jeter was shown in video thanking fans on the scoreboard.

While the Yankees are headed to Detroit for what they hope will be three games, their captain will fly to Charlotte, N.C., to visit a foot specialist.

Jhonny Peralta singled in the sixth for the Tigers' first baserunner against Kuroda, who was pitching on short rest for the first time in his big league career. Delmon Young then gave Detroit the lead with a forceout grounder in the seventh, a night after putting the Tigers ahead in the 12th inning with a double.

Sanchez has had quite the success in the Bronx. He made his big league debut at the old Yankee Stadium when it was across the street, and pitched 5 2-3 shutout innings for Marlins in 2006. The only player to notch two hits against him in that game was Jeter.

Pitching for the first time in this 4-year-old ballpark ? and in front of his parents ? Sanchez limited the slumping Yankees to just three hits and three walks, one an intentional pass to Raul Ibanez.

When Ichiro Suzuki reached on Sanchez's fielding error to open the sixth and advanced to third with two outs, Peralta was there to bail out his pitcher with another nifty play, bare-handing a slow grounder for the third out.

Leyland took Valverde out of consideration for the closer role on Sunday. Valverde gave up a pair of two-run homers in the ninth inning Saturday night and also blew a save in the division series.

Former Yankees reliever Phil Coke pitched two innings for the save.

"Jose Valverde will be an important part of this club in this playoff or we are going to have a real tough time," Leyland said. "I just hope that the people back home are, like I said, not too short-minded because this guy has been fantastic, and is an important piece in the scenario, in my opinion."

Kuroda did all he could to help keep it close for the Yankees' anemic offense.

Curtis Granderson went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts and a walk and Alex Rodriguez singled in the ninth for his third hit of the postseason and finished 1 for 4. A-Rod is 0 for 18 with 12 Ks against right-handed pitchers in these playoffs. When he lined out to left field in the seventh fans gave a mock cheer.

"We've been through stretches like this all year," Rodriguez said. "It's been a very volatile stock market for us this year."

NOTES: Cabrera reached base in all 18 playoff games with Detroit, matching Hank Greenberg for the longest streak in team history.

Nobel Peace Prize 2012 awarded to the European Union

Friday, the European Union has been awarded the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize. This distinction rewards the EU's contribution for over six decades to the advancement of peace and reconciliation, democracy and human rights.

"It is a tremendous honour for the European Union to be awarded the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize. This Prize is the strongest possible recognition of the deep political motives behind our Union: the unique effort by ever more European states to overcome war and divisions and to jointly shape a continent of peace and prosperity. It is a Prize not just for the project and the institutions embodying a common interest, but for the 500 million citizens living in our Union", said the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission in a joint statement.

Pointing towards the future, the two Presidents expressed the European Union's commitment to continue "to promote peace and security in the countries close to us and in the world at large".

The Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize Committee singled out the "EU's contribution for over six decades to the advancement of peace and reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe."

It valued the stabilising part played by the EU that "has helped to transform most of Europe from a continent of war to a continent of peace. The work of the EU represents "fraternity between nations", and amounts to a form of the "peace congresses" to which Alfred Nobel refers as criteria for the Peace Prize in his 1895 will.

Mexico raids seized campuses, battle protesters

Police raided three teachers colleges in the western state of Michoacan Monday, where dozens of students had been hijacking buses and delivery trucks for a week to protest curriculum changes.

The protesters threw rocks and fireworks at police and burned dozens of trucks and buses as the authorities swept in and detained strikers. The massive police raids early Monday indicate patience is running out with campus takeovers, which have become common and often violent in Mexico. In recent weeks, hundreds of students at two other occupied campuses in Mexico have battled protesters to free their universities from occupation.

The standoff at the teachers colleges began over a week ago, when students seized the campuses to protest plans to require them to take English and computer science courses. The protesters say the colleges are meant to prepare teachers for rural areas where basic skills are more of a priority.

The protesting students fanned out, forcing bus and delivery truck drivers to move the vehicles to the occupied campuses. Protesters ended up holding the vehicles and several of their drivers for more than week.

Michoacan state spokesman Elina Ambriz said one of the three campuses had been recovered without incident. But state Government Secretary Jesus Reyna said 120 students were detained in another of the raids, and local television showed scenes of police battling masked, rock-throwing students, with burning buses in the background.

It was the latest in a round of pushbacks against campus takeovers, which have long been tolerated in Mexico because authorities are often loath to interfere. Police are wary of entering many colleges because of the concept of university autonomy, which protects academic independence by allowing colleges to run their own affairs. Memories of student massacres in 1968 and 1971 make cracking down on campus protests politically unpalatable.

But with common citizens and other students being affected by the takeovers, police and even students themselves have begun to act.

Last month, rejected students demanding admission to the University of Michoacan took over the campus. After two weeks without classes, dental and medical students donned motorcycle helmets, leaped the walls around the campus in white lab coats and battled to take their university back. Rocks and fists flew, sticks and baseball bats were swung, a fire extinguisher was turned against the medical students, and finally the squatters fled the school of medicine. Classes reopened days later.

This month, about 100 students at Mexico City's Autonomous University rushed the gates of their seized campus and briefly forced out striking students, who later returned with a pickup truck to bash in the gates and retake the school. The two sides are now in talks to end the standoff.

With only a dozen or so masked students holding some campuses at the school, frustration has boiled over among hundreds of locked-out students who tried to take make-up classes in improvised classrooms. The strikers were backed by some professors and university employees.

"We are now holding classes in tents, at the soccer field next to the campus, and the conditions are deplorable," said Gustavo Martinon, 23, a media arts student at the university's Cuautepec campus. "When it rains, the tents flood."

"The engineering students need labs and computers, and they don't have them. We (media arts) students need the radio station, the video facilities, and all the equipment we need."

An Introduction To The Philosophy Of Politics And Economics ...

Tamar Gendler, Department of Philosophy Chair at Yale University, Cognitive Scientist

Who gets what and who says so? These two questions underlie and inform every social arrangement from the resolution of schoolyard squabbles to the meta-structure of human societies.? They are also the basis of political philosophy.? Professor Tamar Gendler uses the work of three titans of the discipline, Thomas Hobbes, John Rawls, and Robert Nozick, as a lens to guide us through the taut debate about the role of government in society, asking "Will we embrace the radical state of nature or will we surrender our freedom to the leviathan of the state?"

House-size asteroid zips by Earth on Friday

An asteroid the size of a house will buzz Earth Friday, but poses no risk of hitting our planet, scientists say.

The asteroid 2012 TC4 will pass Earth at a range of just 59,000 miles ? about one-fourth the distance to the moon ? when it makes its closest point today, NASA scientists said. The asteroid was discovered by astronomers on Oct. 4 and is about 56 feet across.

"Small asteroid 2012 TC4 will safely pass Earth Oct 12 at just .25 the distance to our moon's orbit," scientists with NASA's Asteroid Watch program wrote in a Twitter update this week. On average, the moon's orbit is about 238,000 miles.

    4. Astronomers spot huge 'diamond planet'

The asteroid is large enough to be seen by backyard astronomers using a small telescope, the night sky events website Spaceweather.com has reported.

Near-Earth flybys of small asteroids like 2012 TC4 pass inside the orbit of the moon fairly often, Asteroid Watch scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., explained.

On Oct. 7, the 100-foot-wide asteroid 2012 TV also passed inside the moon's orbit, missing Earth by about 158,000 miles.

NASA scientists and astronomers regularly watch the skies for potentially dangerous asteroids that could pose and impact threat to Earth. In fact, by a fluke of timing, a group of asteroid hunters announced Thursday that it is on track for a 2017 launch of a private space telescope dedicated to seeking out potentially dangerous space rocks.

Officials with the B16 Foundation said their plan to launch the Sentinel Space Telescope to scan for near-Earth asteroids has passed a major review milestone. The new space telescope is designed to search for asteroids from an observation spot near the orbit of Venus.

In September 2011, NASA announced that its surveys had found about 90 percent of the largest asteroids that could post a threat ? space rocks the size of a mountain or bigger.

Asteroid 2012 TC4 is too small to pose a risk to Earth. Past estimates by astronomers said that an asteroid about 460 feet wide would cause widespread damage on the planet.

Calorie Labeling on Soft Drink Vending Machines |

Vending Machine Calories

You may have heard the news that soft drink vending machines will soon begin labeling the calories on each bottle sold, so that consumers can make ?informed choices?.

The FDA has not gotten around to specifying exactly how to label vending machines. In a classic move by companies about to be regulated, the aforementioned companies are preempting any ordinance the FDA may set by deciding for themselves how the calorie information will be shown to consumers. And accompanying it with a big PR splash to appear ?responsible?

To the companies? credit, the calorie count will appear right on the selector button for each individual beverage. A 20 oz bottle of Coke (2.5 cups worth) will be labeled as having 240 calories. Most people that buy a 20 oz bottle consume it in its entirety. Lower calorie choices will be offered as well. Not that a 0 calorie Diet Coke is a healthy drink?

The vending machine calorie labeling program will initially roll out in Chicago and San Antonio as a pilot.

Do you think people will drink less soft drinks as a result?
